Bolingbrook Police, K-9 Foil Alleged Gun Heist: Cops

Frankfort men arrested after allegedly breaking into Bass Pro Shops in an attempt to steal guns.

Two men were arrested early Tuesday morning after allegedly trying to steal shotguns and rifles from Bass Pro Shops, 709 N. Janes Ave. in the Promenade Bolingbrook.

Bolingbrook Lt. Mike Rompa said police responded to the store after an alarm was activated at 1:54 a.m.

Officers who arrived saw a subject running around the lower level of the store, Rompa said. Police quickly surrounded the exterior of the building. The man then attempted to break out the store windows, but retreated to the interior of the store after seeing officers, Rompa said.

Officers made entry into the store and conducted an extensive search. As police searched, they found discarded rifles and shotguns scattered throughout the store, Rompa said.

A Bolingbrook K-9 unit found suspect Anthony McKee, 25, of the 20000 block of Rosewood, Frankfort, hiding in a storage room, police said.

A second suspect, 20-year-old Thomas Youngren, of the 7900 block of Carrie Court in Frankfort, was found hiding in a gray Dodge pickup truck outside of the building, according to Rompa.

McKee was taken to Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital for treatment after being apprehended by the K-9, while Youngren was taken to the Bolingbrook Police Department. Rompa said both men were interviewed and eventually taken to the Will County jail.

McKee is charged with burglary and resisting/obstructing a peace officer, while Youngren is charged with burglary, according to jail records.
