Bolingbrook Water Slide Hell Ride: Lawsuit

A woman said she was knocked unconscious while riding on a Pelican Harbor water slide.

A woman claiming she suffered injuries when she was knocked unconscious on a Pelican Harbor Aquatic Park water slide has filed a lawsuit against the village and the park district.

The woman, Katherine Flores, rode a tube down a slide in June 2012 when—near the end of the ride—she was knocked out, the lawsuit said.

According to the suit, "the force of the water was at an excessive speed resulting in (Flores) striking her head and shoulder against the slide, and losing consciousness."

Flores was riding down the slide with her husband when she hit her head and was knocked out, the suit said. She allegedly still suffers from unspecified injuries.

The lawsuit also claims that Flores wasn't the first casualty claimed by that particular Pelican Harbor Aquatic Park water slide.

"Prior to June 10, 2102, there were multiple injuries sustained by other patrons riding down the subject slide that defendants should have been aware of," the suit said.

I agree with all the previous statements. It is unfortunate that this has happened and I am sorry that she was hurt. However, one must assume that there is always some amount of risk from participation in such an activity. Unless she has some serious proof of outright negligence that has not been made public, I think they are hoping for easy money at taxpayer expense. I hope the courts do award her a fair appraisal of medical bills but nothing more. Oops! I spilled hot coffee on myself. I think I will sue the maker. -- STOP FRIVOLOUS LAWSUITS!

I agree with all of the above. I think it is time that people realize that it is up to them to be safe and stop faulting our society for their own carelessness.

I agree with everyone's thoughts here. Every accident we have has a cause. You should be safe walking in your own home but if you trip on a toy on the floor and hurt yourself you aren't going to sue your child for leaving it there. Things happen in life that aren't always pleasant. They are the consequences of our actions. It was just a misfortunate accident. That doesn't give a person the right to blame(sue) the park district. You deal with it an move on.
