Firefighters Handle Small Blaze Caused by Gas Leak

Gas still leaking from the ground after fire. ComEd crews on scene.

Bolingbrook firefighters on Thursday afternoon put out a small fire that began after the home's gas meter was omitting fumes from the ground.

Batallion Chief Dan Graff said firefighters responded to a home on the 500 block of Boardman Circle, located on the northern border of Bolinbrook, and found a small fire that originated on the outside gas meter of the home.

The fire had partially spread into the two-story family home but the flames were quickly extinguished and no injuries were reported, Graff said.

After the fire was put out, Graff said natural gas was still leaking from the ground near the meter. Crews were on scene working the matter, Graff said.

Graff said sometimes gas pipes can get corroded over time.
