Heat Advisory, Heightened Fire Danger Expected Wednesday

Heat indices of 104 to 109 will be possible. The heat advisory will expire at 10 p.m.

Hot weather and breezy conditions will make Wednesday a dangerous day, for both in terms of heat and for fire, according to the National Weather Service

A heat advisory is in effect until 10 p.m. Wednesday night, with temperatures of 96 to 103 and heat indices of 104 to 109 possible. 

Very hot, dry and breezy conditions will lead to an increased danger for wildfires.

Outdoor burning is discouraged and should be avoided. 

Prolonged exposure to the heat will be dangerous, according to the NWS, and can cause sunstroke, heat cramps or heat exhaustion.

If you need to work outside, reschedule activities for early morning or evening. Wear light-weight and loose-fitting clothing and drink plenty of water. 

Take frequent breaks in shade or in an air-conditioned space. 

Stay out of the sun and check on relatives and neighbors. Pets and children should not be left unattended in cars as the interior can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes. 

Cooling centers 

In Bolingbrook, residents can seek shelter from the heat at:

  • DuPage Township Levy Center, 251 Canterbury (8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.)
  • Bolingbrook Fire Station #3, 376 East Boughton Rd.
  • Bolingbrook Fire Station #4, 1111 West Boughton Rd.
  • Bolingbrook Fire Station #5, 1900 Rodeo Dr.

The fire stations are on call as cooling centers, so residents should call 630-226-0600 to confirm the facility is available.
