In Pot Bust, Bolingbrook Man Hands Over the Goods: Police Report

Jose Rivera is charged with two felony counts following an incident Wednesday night on Malibu Drive in Bolingbrook, according to police reports.

A Bolingbrook police spokesman said the smell of pot was in the air.

And officers knew they had their man when they were offered a freshly burnt doobie in the 200 block of Malibu Drive during the course of an investigation Wednesday night, Lt. Mike Rompa said.

Jose Rivera, 34, of 301 Malibu Drive, Bolingbrook, was taken into custody and charged with two felony counts—possession of cannabis (more than 30 grams) and delivery of cannabis (more than 30 grams)—following an incident that occurred at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday, Rompa said.

"The Bolingbrook Police POP Unit was in the area attempting to serve a warrant," Rompa said. "They located a subject matching the description of the one in question (on the warrant).

"As the officers approached the subject, they could detect the distinct odors of fresh cannabis and burnt cannabis about his person."

Rompa said officers identified the subject as Rivera.

"(He) was allegedly walking down the street smoking cannabis," Rompa said. "Rivera handed a freshly burnt cannabis cigarette to the officers and, upon further investigation, they additionally seized approximately 30.7 grams of packaged cannabis from his person."

Rompa said Rivera was interviewed and it was discovered he was in the process of delivering the packaged cannabis with the intent to sell it to a buyer on the street.

Rivera was processed and transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility, Rompa said.
