Joliet Men Steal Air Jordans in Ruse Robbery: Police

A meeting at a Bolingbrook drugstore was a ruse for three men to rob a teenager of his Air Jordans, police said.

Jaime A. Muniz, 18, of the 1100 block of Edgerton in Joliet, contacted the victim on a social media site dedicated to selling and trading athletic shoes, Bolingbrook police told The Times Weekly. Muniz is accused of arranging a meeting with the teen in the parking lot of CVS, 1725 W. Boughton Road, for the purpose of trading shoes.

Instead, Muniz is accused of concocting a ruse with two of his friends, who were to show up during the deal and stage a robbery, according to Lt. Mike Rompa. The plan was to leave the victim believing that Muniz had also been robbed.

Jarry N. Hall, 19, of the 800 block of Cardinal, and Marshall K. Williams, 18, of the 1200 block of Fairview, allegedly tackled the victim and stole two pairs of shoes from him before fleeing. According to the report, the pair also went through Muniz's pockets and took money as part of the ruse.

According to the newspaper, police said Muniz left the scene in his car and flagged down an officer to report the robbery. Officers reportedly found the shoes nearby and used a police dog to track Williams, who was hiding several blocks away. Officers also located Hall, and the two alleged accomplices were taken in for questioning.

Williams and Hall confirmed that Muniz was also involved in the robbery, police said.

The three Joliet men were taken to the Will County jail and charged with robbery. They were due in court Tuesday afternoon, according to jail records.
