DUI/Seat Belt Campaign Now Through Sept. 5

Extra patrols will be looking for impaired drivers and seat belt violations, and a special roadside check on Route 59 will be held Labor Day weekend.

Here's a hint: Fail to use your seatbelt or drink and drive at your own peril.

Plainfield police are always on the lookout, but they'll be stepping up their efforts now through Sept. 5 as part of their Labor Day extra traffic enforcement.

And in addition to the extra patrols, they will also be conducting a road side safety check on Route 59 over the Labor Day weekend. The Will County Sheriff's Office and the Illinois State Police will be assisting.

According to the Illinoid Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the most dangerous time to drive is between midnight and 3 a.m. That's when the highest percentage of drivers who have been drinking on the road -- and the lowest percent of people using seat belts.
