One Dead, One Charged in Bolingbrook Crash

Jay Cox, 35, of Bolingbrook has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol in the accident that took the life of Efren Garcia, 30, of Bolingbrook.

One Bolingbrook man is dead and another faces drunken driving charges after a traffic accident late Friday night.

Bolingbrook police said that a Jeep driven by Jay Cox, 35, 251 Meadowbrook Drive, Bolingbrook, collided with a Nissan driven by Efren Garcia, 30, of Bolingbrook, at around 11 p.m. at the intersection of Rockhurst Road onto Monterey Drive.

Garcia, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was attempting to turn onto Monterey when he was struck. The Jeep SUV then rolled over and came to rest on its roof, police said.

Police said Garcia was pinned in his car, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Cox was taken to Bolingbrook Adventist Hospital, where he was treated and released.

Cox was charged with aggravated drunken driving and improper lane usage, police said.

He was transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility.

The accident is still under investigation, police said.

A funeral Mass for Garcia will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michaels the Archangels Parish, 4821 S. Damen Ave., Chicago. A visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Salerno's Galewood Chapel, 1857 N. Harlem Ave., Chicago.
