Plainfield Incident Leads to Criminal Sexual Abuse Charges Against Bolingbrook Man

Suhayl Akram Khatib is facing three felony counts after being booked into the Will County Adult Detention Facility, according to a police spokeswoman.

A routine vehicle check and a subsequent investigation led to criminal sexual abuse charges being filed against a 21-year-old Bolingbrook man on Wednesday, Will County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer said.

Suhayl Akram Khatib, 21, of 212 Periwinkle Lane, Bolingbrook, was charged with three counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse—all felonies—and booked into the Will County Adult Detention Facility, Hoffmeyer said.

He was scheduled to appear in bond court Thursday.

Hoffmeyer said Plainfield police were on patrol near South Indian Boundary Line Road and Rowley Road in Plainfield Township at about 11:40 a.m. Wednesday.

"They observed what they believed to be an abandoned van," Hoffmeyer said. "Upon approaching the van, they found Khatib and a female 14-year-old juvenile inside."

Hoffmeyer said Khatib was not caught in the act of having sex with the 14-year-old, but that agents with the Will County Sheriff's Office were called to the scene. Hoffmeyer said the agents initially took Khatib into custody for questioning and also brought in the juvenile for a "victim sensitive interview."

"Statements were made by Khatib implicating himself," Hoffmeyer said. "He was then charged with three counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse."

Hoffmeyer said Khatib has no prior arrests on his record in Will County.
