Police Bust Two Using Heroin in Borders Parking Lot

Des Plaines man leads Bolingbrook police on foot chase in business shopping center before arrest.

Bolingbrook police have busted two more area residents using heroin within village limits.

This time police arrested Brett Dunkel, 32, of Des Plaines, and Stephen Kappa, of Schaumburg, for using the drug.

Police responded to the parking lot of the abandoned Borders for two people allegedly doing drugs in their car just after 5 p.m. on Tuesday.

When officers arrived, police found the two men attempting to hide objects, later found to be hypodermic needles, in their shorts.

Dunkel fled on foot from the car and subsequently led police on a foot chase behind the shopping center, said Bolingbrook Lieutenant Mike Rompa. Kappa was arrested on scene.

Both were ultimately taken into custody and charged with felony possession of a controlled substance.

Dunkel was also charged with resisting a peace officer and aggravated assault to a government employee.

The drug bust is at least the fourth of its kind during the last two months in relation to Bolingbrook.

In June, a Bolingbrook man was arrested after with police. In July, police busted with the drug. Two days later, police caught a in another Bolingbrook parking lot.

And on July 30, a Bolingbrook man was one of seven area residents arrested as the result of a month-long drug investigation that ultimately .
