Police: Darien Woman Involved in 3 Car Accidents in 1 Day

The driver, whose blood alcohol levels were nearly five times the legal limit, was involved in crashes in Bolingbrook and Woodridge before being detained at the scene of a crash in Darien.

A Darien woman involved in three separate accidents in one day was charged with driving under the influence after her blood alcohol levels tested nearly five times the legal limit, Darien police said.

Around 9:25 p.m. Feb. 3, Lori Ann Gutierrez drove into a Mercury Cougar, pushing it into a Chevy Trailblazer on Boughton Road near the Interstate 355 ramp in Bolingbrook, Bolingbrook police said.

Gutierrez, 44, of the 2600 block of Woodmere Drive, left the scene traveling west on Boughton Road, according to the report.

The Bolingbrook Fire Department took one person to the hospital with undisclosed injuries, the report said. The driver of one of the other cars declined medical attention.

Shortly thereafter, Woodridge police responded to an accident at 87th and Woodward in Woodridge possibly involving Gutierrez, according to the Bolingbrook police report. The Darien report said Gutierrez was involved in the accident in Woodridge. Woodridge police did not respond to a request for further information.

Around 9:44 p.m., Gutierrez was involved in an accident at the intersection of Plainfield and Lemont roads in Darien, Darien police said.

Gutierrez nearly hit a Woodridge police car when she backed up in an attempt to flee, according to the Darien police report. Darien police took over the investigation once they arrived on the scene.

When Darien officers questioned her, they said Gutierrez smelled strongly of alcohol, had bloodshot eyes and walked unsteadily.

She was treated and released from Hinsdale Hospital with minor injuries, police said.

The driver and passenger in the other car were taken to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove with minor injuries, police said.

Darien police charged Gutierrez with driving under the influence. According to the Bolingbrook report, she was also charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and leaving the scene of a personal injury accident.
