Police Department to Participate in DEA's Take Prescription Drug Take-Back Day

Police department and DEA will collect dangerous, expired or unused prescription drugs for destruction on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The will again be a host site for the Drug Enforcement Administration's Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, officials say.

Bolingbrook Lieutenant Mike Rompa said the department's office will a site for the event on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The drop off point will be in the front lobby area, just inside the main entrance, Rompa said.

The take-back day is a national effort launched last year that seeks to prevent increased pill abuse and theft. According to a release, the DEA will be collecting potentially dangerous, expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs for destruction.

"Prescription drug abuse is the Nation's fastest-growing drug problem,
and take-back events like this one are an indispensable tool for
reducing the threat that the diversion and abuse of these drugs pose to
public health," said Director of National Drug Control Policy Gil
Kerlikowske in a release. "The federal, state and local collaboration represented in
this initiative is key in our national efforts to reduce pharmaceutical
drug diversion and abuse."
