Police: Man Charged with DUI After Causing 5-Car Crash, Flipping Van

Police said Jesus Garcia, 19, was fleeing a burglary when he caused a five-vehicle crash and flipped the van he was driving at the intersection of Route 53 and Remington Boulevard.

A  man has been charged with aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol in connection with causing a five-vehicle crash after fleeing the scene of a vehicle burglary, according to police reports.

Police said Jesus Garcia, 19, was breaking into a vehicle at about 12:30 p.m. Friday in the lot outside , 348 S. Bolingbrook Drive, when the vehicle’s alarm went off.

According to police, Garcia then jumped into his Ford Windstar and fled toward the intersection of Route 53 and Remington Boulevard, where he caused a five-vehicle crash and flipped the van he was driving.

Garcia then crawled out the van and fled on foot, police said.

Garcia was found hiding in a dumpster behind Aldi Foods, according to reports. He was taken into custody and positively identified.

Police said open alcohol and the in-dash navigation system stolen during the initial vehicle burglary were found in the van.

Garcia was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital with head injuries. He was released from the hospital Sunday and and is being held in the Will County Adult Detention Facility on charges of burglary to a motor vehicle, aggravated DUI, no valid driver’s license, no insurance and open alcohol.

Police said Garcia was the only one injured in the crash.

Why did they take him to Good Sam when they were less then a mile give or take from Adventist Bolingbrook hospital?
John Moreli May 01, 2012 at 03:10 AM
Why in the hell is there even a hospital in Bolingbrook if they didn't take the scum there!!!

Hospitals in the state of Illinois have different trauma ratings based on things such as 24/7 neurology, 24/7 trauma surgeons, and even simply having an ER that is open 24/7. Many hospitals in the area, such as Adventist Bolingbrook, are only a Level 2 Trauma Center. This is extremely common. There are also different criteria for patients that necessitate direct transport from the field to a Level 1 Trauma Center. Fire departments don't transport patients farther than necessary unless the situation calls for it. When a patient that needs Level 1 trauma treatment goes to a Level 2 hospital, it severely delays the necessary treatments. Good Sam, the closest Level 1 Trauma Center, is a mere 15-20 minutes from most places in Bolingbrook by Ambulance. This is a much shorter trip than the time necessary for ABH to accept the patient, stabilize, and then send to Good Sam. The Bolingbrook Fire Department Annual Report is posted on the Village's website. If you read it you will see that 94% of the FD's transports are to Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital. That is 2,726 of the 2,912 total transports provided by the FD. http://www.bolingbrook.com/info/pdf/AnnualReport2011.pdf

He could have killed people INCLUDING ME. I am one of his victims and he ran into the wrong woman. I will be at every hearing to ensure he serves as much time as possible.

Make sure you get a copy of the accident report and check the Will County court site in order to stay informed on court dates. They change and you won't necessarily be notified. We found that out ourselves with regards to an accident we were in.
John Moreli May 01, 2012 at 02:31 PM
This scum will most likely plead guilty and no one will be needed in court!
mray May 01, 2012 at 08:02 PM
He will probably plead "not guilty" in hopes that no one shows up at court then there are no witnesses for the state. It almost happened to us when an "upstanding" citizen said they'd plea guilty, then plead not guilty. If we hadn't been watching the county website we would not had known about the plea change and he'd have gotten out of the ticket.
John Moreli May 01, 2012 at 08:38 PM
The only ones that will make a bigdifference in court is the victim of the car burglary and the officer that arrested the scum for DUI, no insurance , no DL and open alcohol! He's screwed in court!
mray May 02, 2012 at 12:44 AM
The victims of the auto wrecks will make a difference. The police didn't witness the the incident(s). The people involved in the wrecks are witnesses for the state, without them, the case gets weak. Sure there are other charges but the state still needs witnesses. Why take a chance that this loser could walk when all it would take is a little bit of time to appear in court?
Jennifer Chelini May 02, 2012 at 01:10 AM
Thank you all for your opinions and information, but I know that sitting in my living room complaining about him does no good at all. At least I am going to try to make a difference and see that someone who could be so irresponsible and hurt so many people will be punished to the full extent of the law. I can not do that from my couch. There are 4 cars that have damage most of them are totaled, even though no one went to the emergency room at the time of the accident some may also have medical bills associated with the accident as well. Who pays for this? The Victims, that's who, so if you think I am going to sit by and watch him serve a couple days, weeks, or months for the tens of thousands of dollars in damages he will certainly never be able to pay for you are very mistaken, not this woman.
John Moreli May 02, 2012 at 03:21 AM
True who pays for it? This scum has no insurance and there goes any restitution from him ! The accident is the least of his worries! The charges of aggravated DUI and burglary which are both felonies will probably put him in jail for 6 months to a year ! I guarantee this scum will take a plea with out going to trial!
John Moreli May 02, 2012 at 03:35 AM
Do you think he will get more than a year in prison? I say no!
Jennifer Chelini May 02, 2012 at 03:41 AM
John I am not really all that knowledgeable when it comes to jail sentences. I just want to do my part to make sure he isn't allowed to slip through the system. He hit me, and screwed up my world for the time being, My husband is laid off, we are VERY tight on funds, we have one car and that is now damaged and I have been very sore and not sleeping well since Friday and I have a family that needs me. Now because of him I have a car to fix and I am quite frankly PISSED about it!!
John Moreli May 02, 2012 at 03:51 AM
He will not slip through the system! Aggravated DUI and burglary are serious charges! By him not having insurance or a D.L. screws you and everyone else in the accident ! With some luck he's hopefully looking at a year in jail! It is sad for you and everyone involved since its most likely this scum doesn't have a pot to piss in and no money to pay anyone!
Concerned American May 02, 2012 at 04:32 AM
Sue the bastard and order a judgement against him for damages!!!!!! this is an outrage this fucker NEEDS jail time if not worst!!!
John Moreli May 02, 2012 at 06:49 PM
Sue the scum for what ? He probably doesn't have a pot to piss in!!!
Jesus Corona May 03, 2012 at 04:12 AM
U guys are all mean. That "scum" you are all talking about happens to be my uncle. He has made bad decisions but he is still a human being. He almost died, he has brain damage and is very hurt.
John Moreli May 03, 2012 at 03:18 PM
He is scum! His brain damage is his own fault! He problem had brain damage long before the accident!
Dirk May 03, 2012 at 10:26 PM
Hopefully this is a wake up call to your uncle. He could of seriously injured or killed an innocent person.
