Police: Plainfield Duo Arrested After Retail Theft Binge in Bolingbrook

Police say pair stole from Target, Kohl's on Sunday.

Two Plainfield residents are in jail today after allegedly stealing from two of the village’s big-box retail stores.

Darryl Smith, 23, and Janice Turner, 59, both of the 1400 block of Peacock Lane, are both facing felony retail theft charges after police say they caught the pair stealing from Target and Kohl’s on West Boughton Road.

According to police, the duo started at Target, where they allegedly were able to exit the store with $1,250 worth of merchandise. Security guards followed the pair out of the store, police said, but lost sight of them as they left the lot in their car.

That car was later seen outside of Kohl’s, just a few doors down from Target on Bolingbrook’s west side.

Police notified Kohl’s security of Smith’s and Turner’s presence and the two were soon located inside and were seen taking $250 worth of merchandise and exiting the store without paying.

Bolingbrook Lieutenant Michael Rompa said both Smith and Turner were taken into custody upon leaving Kohl’s and later identified by both store security personnel.

The two were processed and transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility.

Rompa said the pair was stealing clothing, grocery goods, sporting goods and domestics.
