Police to Begin Patrolling McKenzie Falls

Bolingbrook police officers will now be able to enforce local ordinances and state traffic statutes thanks to an agreement struck between the village and the senior living community.

No, the senior citizens of aren't going rogue. 

But up to this point, they could have.

The village board on Tuesday approved an ordinance that will allow police officers to enforce state and local traffic laws in McKenzie Falls, a senior residential living complex that opened in last year.

According to village code, police are not allowed to enforce ordinances and state traffic statutes on private driveways and parking areas. The village needs to strike an agreement with those entities to do so.

McKenzie Falls had its and was fully operational by June.

The senior living community is designed for low-income, independent seniors and persons with disabilities. Previous construction of a senior community on the site ended a number of years ago after bankruptcy issues halted the development.

McKenzie Falls apartment units will rent between $600 and $700 to prospective tenants, who must earn at or below 60 percent of the area's median income. According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development guidelines, for a one-person household living in Will County, that income limit is $31,560.
