Shoplifter Caught in the Act Faces Charges: Police

21-year-old Ryan Greene is accused of battering a loss prevention agent, attempting to flee with stolen merchandise.

A Glendale Heights man is accused of battering a loss prevention agent and resisting police after allegedly getting caught shoplifting, and an officer was reportedly injured while chasing the fleeing suspect.

Ryan M. Greene, 21, of the 1000 block of Spruce Street, is accused of grabbing a portable speaker system and walking out of Walmart, 200 S. Bolingbrook Dr., without paying.

Lt. Mike Rompa said Greene was confronted by a loss prevention agent in front of the store. "[Greene] battered the agent and fled the store on foot toward a residential area across Route 53," Rompa said.

Bolignbrook police began a search of the area and located Greene near a home in the subdivision. Rompa said Greene then fled, prompting a foot chase. He was eventually apprehended on Route 53, according to police.

Rompa said one officer suffered a broken foot while chasing Greene in the snow.

Greene was booked into the Will County jail on three counts of resisting an officer. He is also charged with battery and retail theft, according to jail records.
