Truck Lands in Ditch, But No Injuries in I-55 Crash Near Route 53: Police

Cause of accident remains under investigation, according to a spokesman with the Illinois State Police.

A car struck a semi-trailer truck in the southbound lanes on I-55 near the intersection of Route 53 on Wednesday morning, and the truck ended up overturned in the ditch on the side of the road, Illinois State Police Sgt. Martez Malone said.

No one was injured in the accident, which occurred at mile-marker 267 at 10:30 a.m., Malone said.

"A vehicle traveling in the left lane—the driver lost control for some reason," Malone said. "The vehicle veered to the right and struck the semi-trailer truck. It was reported that the semi attempted to avoid the impact and overturned into the ditch."

Malone was not prepared to release the names of the driver of the car or the truck. He said the accident remains under ISP investigation.
