Two men were charged with aggravated battery of a police officer after a struggle Saturday.
Christian A. Cardenas, 17, and Paul A. Ryburn, 21, were arrested at about 2:48 a.m. Saturday at 305 Woodcreek Drive.
Initially, officers said they saw three suspicious subjects at 107th Street and Canterbury Lane before Ryburn fled from police on foot toward Woodcreek Apartments. The K-9 Unit tracked him to 305 Woodcreek.
Police said Ryburn entered a first-floor apartment and locked out two female visitors, one of which had three children in the apartment. Officers were also informed there was another child inside and Ryburn had been drinking with the group police had attempted to stop, according to reports. The women told police they were concerned for the children.
The officers then saw two men fighting inside, police said. The door was opened by one of the occupants. Officers said they tried to conduct a well-being check in the apartment and were immediately attacked by Cardenas. Ryburn then grabbed one officer from behind and pushed him into a chair, police said. They then fell through a glass table, shattering it. Both Cardenas and Ryburn resisted arrest by physically fighting with officers, police said.
Cardenas and Ryburn are being held in Will County Jail, police said.
Ryburn's bail has been set at $1,300. Bail information was not available for Cardenas.
One male officer injured in the incident was treated and released, police said.
