Will County 6th in State for DUI Busts; Bolingbrook 33rd, Report Shows

Bolingbrook police made 177 DUI arrests in 2012.

Will County ranked 6th in the state for drunken driving arrests in 2012, but the arrests per officer is as low as some of the least populated counties in Illinois, Alliance Against Intoxicated Motorists statistics show.

The Bolingbrook Police Department was 33 out of 154 municipalities for DUI arrests, the report shows.

Bolingbrook police scored 177 DUI busts with 113 officers in 2012, putting its per-officer arrest rate at 1.57.

By comparison, Schaumburg, with 115 officers, bagged 223 drunk drivers last year, putting its per-officer rate at 1.85.

Will County deputies made 219 busts for driving under the influence of alcohol last year. However, it has 230 deputies, which means the per-officer arrest rate was .95.

By comparison, Champaign County -- which ranked 4th -- logged 222 arrests with just 55 officers, putting its per-officer number at 4.04.

The counties with lower rates also have far, far fewer officers. Maucopin County, for example, recorded .78 arrests per officer but had only 32 deputies in 2012. Scott County had a .63 per-officer rate in a department with five deputies.

However, Cook County -- ranked No. 1 with 430 arrests -- came in below Will, with .72 arrests per officer in a department with 526 sworn deputies.

Of the top 10 towns in Illinois in terms of population -- Joliet is fourth on the list -- all but one had more arrests than Joliet. Champaign, the 10th largest city in the state, ranked No. 76, with 83 arrests for 119 officers.

Chicago, as would be expected, tallied the highest number of DUI arrests in 2012: 3,975 busts with a department of 11,959 officers. The number puts its per-officer arrest rate at .32.
