Will County Sheriff's Police on the Lookout for St. Paddy's Day Drunken Drivers

The Will County Sheriff's Office is conducting special patrols this St. Patrick's Day to crack down on drunken drivers. Unbuckled motorists will also be ticketed during the campaign.

"We are reminding everyone to Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over and Click it or Ticket. If you plan on drinking alcohol, designate a sober driver before the party begins. Be responsible or risk a DUI," said Sgt. Steve Byland.

The campaign will begin March 14 and run through March 17. 

St. Patrick's Day tips and reminders from the sheriff's department:

• Remember, you can be held liable and prosecuted if someone you serve is involved in a drunk driving crash.
• Make sure all of your guests designate a sober driver in advance or help arrange ride-sharing with a sober driver.
• Serve food and include several non-alcoholic beverages at the party.
• Keep phone numbers of local cab companies handy and take keys away from anyone who is drinking.
• Make arrangements for guests who do not have a ride to stay overnight.
• Always buckle up - it is still your best defense against a drunk driver.

The St. Patrick's Day Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign is funded by federal traffic safety funds from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and administered through IDOT's Division of Traffic Safety.
