Candidate questions

Why are you running for this office?

When a family’s house burnt, where a person has there utilities shut off, where a resident doesn’t have any food to feed their children, when their house is getting foreclosed on – they have turned to DuPage Township. The reason why I’m running is because I love being able to help people from the troubled teen, to the struggling family, to the seniors that want to stay active I believe the knowledge I have gained over my years of community service has always and will continue to be a value to DuPage Township.

What will be your most important priority if you get elected?

Dupage Township needs to be able to collect the amount of food for over 15,000 visits per year. DuPageTownship is less than 1% of the residents taxes and do not have the resources to pay for that amount of food on our own.  The board will continue to grow relationships with businesses, we also plan to continue to expand our reach by looking at different opportunities – such as this past year we had WGN radio and Chicago Blackhawks come out and help distribute Thanksgiving meals to those in need.

Since being a Township Supervisor we have been awarded Township of the Year, Supervisor of the Year, Youth Director of the Year, Senior Director of the Year, General/Emergency Assistance of the Year and Trustee of the Year. We became the first Township that implemented foreclosure counseling which has saved over 600 homes in foreclosure. Implemented the first Job Fair and continued for the past 3 years which helped find over 400 jobs for our residents. Has been the first Township in the State of Illinois to eliminate its road district in over 30 years.

How long have you lived in your community and/or been active in local issues?

I have lived in DuPage Township for more than 26 years. I'm currently President of Heart Haven Outreach; Lion Club Member; Hampton Park Social Athletic Club Member; Rotarian; Bolingbrook Area Chamber of Commerce Member; Romeoville Area Chamber of Commerce Member; March of Dimes Chef’s Event Committee Member; Relay for Life of Romeoville Committee Member; Boy Scouts of America Committee Member.

What’s your favorite thing about DuPage Township?

My favorite thing about DuPage Township is helping our residents. When I see a family in need whether its finding a job, getting food or help in paying their utilities, it is so heartwarming to be able to help these families and see smiles on their faces. Also, when we are able to provide housing/credit counseling to adults and offering youth programing to young children who qualify for reduced/free lunch program through there school, it makes my position that much more rewarding.

What are the biggest challenges facing DuPage Township, and how would you address them?

As more and more families are struggling and can’t afford to enroll their children in park district programs, DuPage Township will increase partnering with local businesses in physical activity and youth mentoring programs.

Dupage Township needs to continue to grow our diverse senior programing being as we have seen a growth in our senior population. We feel that our diverse senior population needs to continue to have a strong involvement in programs offered by the Levy Center to ensure they continue to stay active and social.
