Bolingbrook Files Lawsuit Against Illinois American Water as Part of Northern Will County Water Agency

The village of Bolingbrook, along with four other Will County communities, have filed a lawsuit against Illinois American Water to take control of a water pipeline through eminent domain.

After making two offers to purchase a water pipeline from Illinois American Water, the Northern Will County Water Agency has filed a lawsuit to take control of the Bedford Park pipeline through eminent domain. 

The Northern Will County Water Agency includes Bolingbrook, Lemont, Woodridge, Romeoville and Homer Glen.

Officials in Lemont, Woodridge and Romeoville have said only small portions of their communities are served by Illinois American Water and would be affected.

The water agency claims the pipeline takeover would prevent Illinois American Water from continually hiking residents' water bills.

IAW claims the increases in water rates are the result of increases from other agencies, and the Northern Will County Water Agency is wasting taxpayer money on a costly and lengthy legal process and misrepresenting the facts.
