Boost in Village Levy Likely to Result in Higher Property Taxes: Report

The cost of living in Bolingbrook looks like it will go up in 2014.

In 2014, the cost of living in Bolingbrook likely will go up, according to a Chicago Tribune report.

The Tribune reports residents could pay more in property taxes to the Village.

Trustees unanimously approved a measure that hikes Bolingbrook's tax levy from $16.3 million to $17.7 million, according to the report. And the Tribune says the extra money collected by the Village will be used to cover police and fire pension costs as well as expenses related to removing and treating trees ravaged by Emerald Ash Borer beetles.

"At this point in time, based on what we know, we have to do this with our levy," Bolingbrook Mayor Roger Claar stated in the Tribune report. "This is our first run at the rate. We do have another opportunity in March where we will be able to take another look at the rate and perhaps lower the levy."
