Church Seeks Damages From Village After Zoning Dispute

Church representative said amount of money the village should owe is still undetermined.

The church that sued in federal court in March and later won its claim is seeking monetary damages from the village, a church representative said. 

Liberty Temple Full Gospel Church for allegedly discriminated against its efforts to relocate to a long-vacant space inside the Bolingbrook Commons shopping center near Interstate 55 and Route 53.

The case was essentially a matter of one’s . Eventually, a judge ordered the village to in a timely matter.

The church is now set to move into the new space in the next week or so, said church representative Tom Ciesielka. But the matter is , he said.

"Based upon the hostility to church use from some village officials, the church is not planning to dismiss the lawsuit, nor is the village requesting dismissal, until that final governmental approval," Ciesielka said. "At that point, Liberty Temple’s attorneys will supply Bolingbrook with an itemization of damages, attorney fees and court costs."

Ciesielka said the cost of damages has yet to be determined. 

If Bolingbrook officials agree on the appropriate amount, the case will be dismissed, he said.
