Friends of Valley View Sweep Slate

Chrystal Hansen will be lone newcomer on board of education.

The three incumbents — , and  — will keep their seats on the Valley View Board of Education, wining re-election to three four-year terms in Tuesday’s election. All three ran together on the Friends of Valley View ticket.

A fourth incumbent, Mike Evans, chose not to seek re-election.

Quigley, the top vote-getter, and Gougis took early leads, while the race between Venegas and  stayed close until the final precinct totals came in.

It was Gougis’ first time being elected to a four-year spot on the board. He was chosen in 2009 to fill out the term of late board member Debbie Bielawski.

 “She was such a great citizen for Romeoville,” he said.

Now, after being elected to a full term, Gougis said he was humbled.

“It’s really humbling to have the citizens entrust the school district,” he said. “It’s an honor.”

, who also ran on the Friends of Valley View ticket, won the two-year unexpired spot on the board with an overwhelming 69 percent of the vote. Romeoville resident  picked up roughly 30 percent.

“I’m feeling really good,” Hansen said late Tuesday. “It’s a little overwhelming. I’m very privileged that both Bolingbrook and Romeoville have put their trust in me.”

Voter turnout was lackluster in Will County, with just 18.82 percent of voters showing up at the polls. 

Results will be made official April 26, when all absentee, provisional and grace period ballots are counted.
