Meet the New Village of Bolingbrook Trustee Maria Zarate

Maria Zarate is one of three village trustees who ran unopposed on the Bolingbrook First Party slate.

Maria Zarate will soon join Michael Lawler and Joseph Morelli as the newest village of Bolingbrook trustee.

Bolingbrook has six village trustees; three trustee seats are on Tuesday's ballot. Lawler and Morelli are running for re-election. Zarate was sought out to join Mayor Roger Claar's Bolingbrook First Party slate to replace Sandra Swinkunas. Swinkunas decided not to seek re-election after 20 years on the board. 

Zarate has lived in Bolingbrook for the past 20 years. She volunteers for Bolingbrook's Civic and Cultural Affairs Commission and Community Service Council, according to the Bolingbrook Reporter. She also recently joined the board for the Heart Haven Outreach program.

She has spent the past five years working as chief of staff for State Rep. Cynthia Soto, where she has worked with senior citizens, youth organizations, the Chicago Public School system and Illinois correctional facilities.
