New Map Will Guide Bolingbrook Park District on the Road to its Future

"Our strategic plans cuts to the core of what we want to do and how we're going to do it," says Bolingbrook Park District Executive Director Ron Oestreich.

Community feedback was captured. Consulting work was done. And now the Bolingbrook Park District is prepared to launch its 2014-2018 Strategic Plan, according to a news release issued by Marketing and Communications Manager Dan Leahy.

In the release, Leahy said the plan will be aligned with the start of the budget year, beginning in January 2014 and continuing through December 2018.

"Our strategic plan cuts to the core of what we want to do and how we're going to do it," said Ron Oestreich, executive director of the Bolingbrook Park District, in the news release. "It will be an institutionalized part of our culture and serve as a guide for the immediate future. We're very excited about it."

Oestreich outlined seven primary objectives of the park district's new strategic plan:

  • Establish a three- to five-year road map for district direction and goals.
  • Incorportate resident needs into future planning.
  • Align the organization with strategic direction.
  • Drive innovation as part of the organizational culture.
  • Strengthen and identify elements of organizational culture through values.
  • Develop preliminary approaches to infrastructure and capital project needs.
  • Create groundwork for a subsequent master plan process.

The Bolingbrook Park District worked with Heller and Heller Consulting, Inc., and Leisure Vision, to gather plan input during a series of community focus groups and the framework for the plan began in 2013, according to the news release.
