Village Cop Cars to Get New Computers; Public Works New Trucks

The village's fire department will also get a new ambulance and power lift stretcher.

Eight Bolingbrook police squad cars are in line to get an upgrade in computer equipment after the village's board of trustees voted in September to purchase the hardware.

The village will pay $39,056 for eight new Panasonic laptop computers from CDS Office Technologies. That price, which includes hardware, software and extended warranties, is more than $40,000 under budget.

Those savings will be used later in the year for additional replacements, Bolingbrook Police Chief Kevin McCarthy said.

McCarthy said the upgrade is long overdue for some squad cars, which were still operating with antiquated computers. He said each computer, valued at $4,882 each, will be able to withstand the demands associated with police work, including the ability to function in all types of weather.

The board also approved the purchase of a new ambulance for the the village's fire department.

The ambulance, bought from Fire Service, Inc., is not to cost more than $158,196 and will replace a 1997 ambulance that had become was in need of repairs beyond the price of fixing them.

The measure also approved the purchase of a new power lift stretcher, which will be paid for through an Illinois Public Risk Fund grant.

That 1997 ambulance will be sold at an auction through the Fleet Division of the Public Works Department.

The Public Works Department will also get three new Chevrolet Silverados from .  All three trucks cost the village $71,575.
