Village Inks Deal to Assure Fourth of July Fireworks Through 2013

Village will pay a total of $87,000 for the three-year contract.

Bolingbrook residents looking to celebrate our nation’s independent within village limits will have a place to do so through at least 2013.

The village board voted unanimously Tuesday at its regularly scheduled meeting to enter into a three-year contract with Melrose Pyrotechnics, Inc., to put on a fireworks show at the as part of the village’s Fourth of July celebration.

The Kingsbury, Ind.-based company has produced similar shows for a number of communities across the midwest including Peoria and Rockford, and also lists the Chicago Bulls and Chicago Bears on their client list.

The contract assures the village a fireworks show at the golf course until 2013.

The village will pay Melrose Pyrotechnics $31,000 for 2011, $29,000 in 2012 and $27,000 in 2013.

The contract will be paid for through the village's hotel and motel tax, said Deputy Mayor Leroy Brown.

Mayor Claar M.I.A.

Bolingbrook Mayor Roger Claar was unable to attend the board meeting as he was attending his daughter's Master's graduation ceremony out of state.

Claar's daughter, Lindsey Claar, received a Master's of Arts in Family Therapy from the University of California-San Diego.

Brown conducted the meeting in Claar's place.

Board Approves Street Repair Contracts

The board also approved a number of public works contracts totaling more than $1 million, which will be paid for via the village's motor fuel tax.

Firefighters Promoted

Two Bolingbrook firefighters were promoted to lieutenants.

Firefighter and paramedic Jasson Pech and John Merino were both promoted and sworn in by Brown.
