Bolingbrook Mayor Roger Claar said is now a household name for many Chicago-area shoppers.
And the village is seeing the benefits first-hand.
Bolingbrook's April sales tax revenue increased more than 16 percent from last year's figures. The village raked in nearly $2 million in April 2011 alone.
Claar said the village's sales tax has been steadily climbing over figures from last year.
But he's not chalking it up to a rebounding economy—well, not completely.
"We've had some great retailers (come to Bolingbrook) such as that has helped a lot," Claar said. "More people are seeking out The Promenade as a place to shop."
Claar said years ago, folks sought out popular shopping destinations such as Fox Valley Shopping Mall and Yorktown Mall. Now, The Promenade is on the map as a premier destination for shopping, he said.
The Promenade is anchored by several big-name retailers, such as , , and to a certain extent, Costco. to the shopping center's next phase beginning sometime this year and with the village as well.
"(The sales tax numbers) are very healthy and that's obviously a good thing," Claar said.
