A local business that hasn't even been open a year has already snagged the title of "Best Bar" in Patch's most recent poll.

Readers in Plainfield, Bolingbrook and Romeoville nominated nearly a dozen watering holes for the latest "Best Of" contest, but the results are clear: Bolingbrook's The Beer Market is the big winner, with 48 percent of the vote.

Plainfield's Durbin's came in second place, with 43 percent of the more than 15,000 votes cast. Fox's in Plainfield came in third.

Featuring more than 500 beers — from craft brews to ciders to stouts and fruit-infused creations — The Beer Market also has a full food menu featuring pizza, salads, burgers and even chicken and waffles. Indecisive beer lovers can even indulge in a "beer flight" to try a variety of brews.

The bar opened in August 2013 in Bolingbrook's Promenade, 641 E. Boughton Rd. It's open from 11 a.m. to midnight Saturday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Friday.

Hello, Shannon! I just wanted to let you know the results of your survey are skewed. The Beer Market is owned by a group of actors who used to work on the ABC soap opera "General Hospital." (Jason, Spinelli, Johnny) They have been tweeting for their fans to vote for their bar. I think it's safe to assume that many of the people who voted for The Beer Market have never been there and don't even live in Illinois!

Thanks for the Heads UP Deborah! While I can understand wanting to aggressively market to get your investment the best start, LYING and being deceitful about it aren't really the way to go. Makes me wonder what else would be lied about.

Hello, Deborah! I just wanted to let you know that hundreds of fans of General Hospital drive hundreds of miles to Beer Markets all over the country to enjoy their Lindeman's Framboise (a DELCIOUS raspberry beer) and watch when the guys' band, Port Chuck, play shows. And us fans? WE LOVE THE BEER MARKET! Especially the ones that have food now! Pizza at the Schaumburg location and everything delicious at Bolingbrook. You should go sometime! It's fantastic!!!

This place that won, is SO NEW I seriously doubt that many people have even been there since it opened. Think about it. It opened in August of 2013. It's a small place. Even if they had that many customers, do you think that they ALL VOTED? It's skewed and wrong. Nothing with these numbers rang a bell with anyone? Anyone? Wow...

The poll allowed a vote a day for fans and was open for a week. Their Facebook page has 850 fans and over 3,000 check ins. Also, with craft beer being a big trend right now I don't see why it is being questioned. It is a great place to hang out and watch sports or listen to live bands. Their food is good and beer selection is overwhelming.

I told my husband about the place at the Bolingbrook Mall, but the both of us, not even our close friends, have NOT visited at the Beer Market yet.

Emily and Erica, I'm sure the Beer Market is a great place, and since it is so close to the Rocket Ice Arena, where my son plays youth hockey, I'm sure I'll go check it out soon. I, too, am a soap opera fan and love all the guys in Port Chuck, especially Bradford Anderson, but I think it's unfair for celebrities to use their fan base to tamper with what is essentially a local contest. I don't know who the other bar owners are, but I'm guessing that a few of them are local guys from my community who are trying to eke out a living.

I've been to both, The Beer Market was more than deserving of its win skewed or not.

FWIW, Port Suck is a gimmck band and The Beer Market is still better than Durbins.
Deborah Johnson February 03, 2014 at 04:58 PM
Michael, if you've been to both, I have no problem with your voting for the Beer Market. It may well be the best bar around here. All I'm saying is that a good number of the people who voted in this particular "readers poll" don't live here, don't read the Patch, and don't go to these bars.

I have a suggestion to remedy this for the future: Next time I think the Patch should have official polling places. -You have to get a voter ID card. Signup will be a few months before the election. -The third Thursday of January show up to your local polling place (thus assuring you live in the area!) -Bring a copy of the Patch (showing you are a reader!), -Also bring a receipt from all 11 bars (photocopies will NOT be accepted!) to show you have been to each establishment. That or we could all realize there has never been a poll in the history of the internet that was ever valid and unbiased, especially one that includes buttons to share the link on your twitter and facebook.

Either that, or don't call the feature "Readers' Choice."

I prefer a bar that has no sports or people.
