Jay Cutler: Franchise QB or Target Practice?

Do the Chicago Bears care about Jay Cutler or are they simply trying to meet the fans' demand for a quarterback?

I am no medical expert, but what I do know is that after so many concussions, eventually your brain will slow and cause damage. Last season, the Chicago Bears allowed 52 sacks on Jay Cutler—was Muhammad Ali even down that many times in his boxing career?

The Chicago Bears traded two first round picks and a third round pick for Cutler. I do believe the Bears got the best out of the trade, but did they realize what they were getting?

Allowing 52 sacks on a quarterback should bring attention to the offensive line. Mike Tice has set his offensive line for the 2011 season:

  • Left Tackle: J'Marcus Webb
  • Left Guard:  Chris Williams
  • Center:  Roberto Garza
  • Right Guard:  Lance Louis
  • Right Tackle: (rookie) Gabe Carimi

How many individuals feel this is the greatest product Tice can put out?

Spencer is clearly still learning the plays. Olin Kreutz felt he wanted to go to a contender so he overpriced himself to play for one and accepted less to play for the New Orleans Saints.

What could've the Bears done?  Sign a wide receiver was a priority, but two of them? Sign a punter? All good pick ups but were they a priority? I don't think so.

Do the Bears really appreciate Cutler? If they did, they would do their hardest to pick up some offensive linemen. Marian Barber? Did we need another running back when we had Matt Forte and Chester Taylor (not thrilled by him)?

I really felt the Bears could've pushed harder to get Clabo from Atlanta or Doug Free from Dallas. Give up and pay the extra $800,000 to sign Kreutz and still sign Spencer and put him on the right side of Olin.

I do not think the Bears know how to treat a quarterback since they haven't had one worth a cent since Kordel Stewart—just kidding. Since God knows when.

All I know is that the Bears need to protect this guy and produce a championship team behind one of the best arms in the NFL. Defense doesn't win games. Quarterbacks do.

I'm not a picky person but we need a product to beat the Green Bay Packers and I'm a happy man. Last year was an absolute embarrassment.
