Back to School: Classes Resume Wednesday in Valley View School District

After a two-day layoff because of snow, hazardous road conditions and record-breaking cold temperatures, classes will resume on Wednesday in the Valley View School District.

Larry Randa, director of community relations, made the announcement at about 9:45 on Tuesday morning even as crews were busy at work clearing parking lots and sidewalks at a number of district schools and readying buses to pick up students, marking the end of an extended Winter Break.

The National Weather Service Chicago reported a low temperature of minus-13 on Tuesday at Lewis University Airport with a wind chill reading of minus-34 at 6:15 a.m. On Wednesday, the daytime highs are expected to climb to between 14 and 18 degrees.
