BHS Student Named National Merit Semifinalist

Winners of Merit Scholarship awards, which will be announced in February, are chosen from the finalist group based on their abilities, skills and accomplishments.

senior Carlos Jimenez has been named a National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist.

The son of Carlos and Erin Jimenez, Carlos plans on going into the engineering field and is considering attending Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Carnegie Mellon or Cornell.

A four-year member of the BHS tennis team, and a BHS mathlete and Scholastic Bowl team member, he is extremely active in the community, volunteering at .

National Merit semifinalists are among the highest scoring students in the country on the PSAT exams taken last spring. To be considered for a National Merit Scholarship, semifinalists can advance to finalist standing by writing an essay and by meeting high academic standards.

Established in 1955, National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) is an independent, not-for-profit organization that operates without government assistance.

NMSC's goals include identifying and honoring academically talented U.S. high school students, stimulating increased support for their education, and providing efficient and effective scholarship program management for organizations that wish to sponsor college undergraduate scholarships.
