Bolingbrook Student Headed to FCCLA National Competition

Eight Bolingbrook High School students recently medaled at the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America State Conference.

Eight Bolingbrook High School students medaled at the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America State Conference with one student, Phoebe Mondala, qualifying for the national competition in Nashville July 7.

Mondala was selected as Illinois Ambassador to the FCCLA National Conference after earning a Gold in the Fashion Construction category for her Garment, presentation and “Secret Garden” story board.

Other BHS Gold Medal winners at the state level included Cassidy Gould and Milan Jones, Apparel Construction; Holly Sluga and Dayle Tiejens, Pastry Arts Frosted Cake; and Yahaira Quinones, Pastry Arts Fondant Cake.

Silver Medals went to Alexandria Browne, Pastry Arts Frosted Cake, and Tyanna Jones, Pastry Arts Fondant Cake. Marelyn Mocino earned a Bronze Metal in Apparel Construction. 

Participants in FCCLA are required to have taken Family and Consumer Science classes at BHS. The required classes include Fashion Design, Fashion Merchandising, Foods & Nutrition, Culinary, Child Development, Orientation to Food service Careers, Orientation to Child Care Occupations and Consumer Economics.

Family, Career and Community Leaders of America is a nonprofit national career and technical student organization for young men and women in Family and Consumer Sciences education in public and private school through grade 12. FCCLA is the only national Career and Technical Student Organization with the family as its central focus.
