Colleen Douty, the parent of a student at Bolingbrook High School and a member of the PTA, sent out the following letter Wednesday in attempt to rally support for Michael White, who resigned last week as the school's principal:

To the VVSD community:

Michael White recently resigned as principal of Bolingbrook High School. We believe Mr. White does not want to leave BHS. Rather, he wants to stay to see his vision come to fruition, but feels limited due to the policies put in place by Dr. Mitchem and the VVSD School Board. The success of our schools has a direct correlation to property values and the growth of local businesses. Everyone is a stake-holder in the situation.

We believe it is not too late for Dr. Mitchem and the school board to reject Principal White’s resignation and empower him to continue implementing his vision for BHS.

We are asking you to show your support of Mr. White in the following ways:

1. Sign our petition on January 24th between 5-9 PM at Fire Station #5 1900 Rodeo Dr, BB

2. Read and share the Bolingbrook Patch articles, blogs & comments

3. Find and share our events on Facebook: Support Mr. White! and Student Protest Against District Policies: SUPPORT MR. WHITE

4. Attend the School Board meeting on Jan. 27th at 7PM 725 Normantown Rd, Romeoville

5. Share the attached flyer/image

All: Comments have been removed from this post because they were in violation of Patch terms.

So what comments were removed? Those dealing with settled lawsuits kept private from the voting public? keep up the momentum ALL

I think that the whole truth is not out there, rumors, gossip causes division. We need to do what is best for our kids. Parents need to act like adults and listen to what is really going on. If the parents did their job at home, maybe we wouldn't have all these problems at school. There must be more to the story.

Silvia, did you try copying the link and then pasting the link on your Facebook page? This is what I did and it worked fine.
Mickey January 23, 2014 at 12:05 PM
Marcos: I believe the comment that was removed was in detail about Mitchem hiring someone that was completely unqualified. And according to the post, the way I read it in my email alert, was that she was basically hired for her looks. IMO, not sure why it was deleted. I did not see any violation. I could copy and paste and repost? :-)

All: I have deleted comments by bhsraider1 because a secruity officer in the school uses that as his handle and the comments were not made by him. The officer is known as "bhsraider1" ... and he wants to stay out of this conversation.
my opinion January 23, 2014 at 02:51 PM
Yeah, "bhsraider1" wants to keep his job. That is why he wants to stay out of this discussion. It is rumored (by multiple sources at BHS) that on Friday when many of the staff wore white shirts showing support for Mr. White, that someone (who could that be???) was writing down names of the teachers in white.

I appreciate the parent and staff participation in this matter. I think that you would get a better turnout to sign the petition if it was located in a Fire Station that is within the VVSD 365U boundaries. The fire station and homes surrounding Station #5 on Rodeo Dr. are located in the Plainfield 202 school district.

@ Pete Simon want to let you know that Mayor Claar is on vacation until February 3rd, his secretary told me to e mail him to let know my concerns and request support so someone will be in charge of this.
Pete Simon January 23, 2014 at 05:46 PM
Thank you Ayesha, surprised no one in the office reads the Patch. SOOO I guess I don't have to pick him up them
Pete Simon January 23, 2014 at 07:31 PM
Kind of ironic that I have a message from VVSD to call and take a survey........bad timing on their part!
Tristan January 23, 2014 at 10:06 PM
Go, Pete, go! Let 'em have it. At least you will be honest!!!
Pete Simon January 23, 2014 at 10:35 PM
Just read the Mitchems Rebuttal in the Bugle. I feel for Mr White even more. Mr. Mitchem, you care about the children, but you cut 120 Aides? How many aid jobs could of been saved with your $103,000 raise plus your $66,000 reimbursement? Now I TRIPLE dog dare you to spend TWO FULL days in an elementary class. I will pick the class. You can't handle it!
Pete Simon January 23, 2014 at 10:38 PM
Mr. Mitchem, If this was a complete shock like you say....then will we see you at the petition signing?
my opinion January 23, 2014 at 11:14 PM
Place your bets......the district cancels class on Monday because of the extreme cold, and oh by the way that will mean the school board meeting will be postponed.
Unhappy teacher January 23, 2014 at 11:28 PM
My opinion- you're not the only one who thinks this way!
Marcos January 24, 2014 at 09:57 AM
Beware of spies taking down names at tonight's petition drive!

Mr. White is the ultimately bully. I say good riddance. Any school administrator who considers belittling students an effective disciplinary method should be ashamed of themselves.
Marcos January 24, 2014 at 03:49 PM
Everyone has a right to their own opinion, however when you have scores and scores of students, and staff members, both groups there on a daily basis, along with other parents taking the opposing view, it's probably a pretty good idea to re-evaluate your view to make sure you're not the one wrong.
Marcos January 24, 2014 at 03:54 PM
Everyone has a right to voice their own opinion Concerned Parent, however when you are the only one with a certain view, and you have scores and scores of both students and staff members who are at BHS daily along coupled with other parents as you yourself are taking the opposing view, it's probably time to re-evaluate your view. Just saying.

Had an epiphany today. Do you remember this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xY5lFn2hRQM The resident asks the board if they follow the Illinois code of ethics under the Illinois association of school boards (around the 1:14 mark). After a little discusion the resident says something like...so you do follow that code...one member says yes, then another says yes then Liz Campbell says NO, sometimes they don't follow it. If they don't follow the code are they in violation of their oath/pledge or whatever. If that is the case, then what decisions/votes have they made that are unethical/ethical. Now, since we can't prove what decisions were ethical/unethical and the board isn't going to say they did anything unethical. Does that mean that ALL decisions/Voted they have made over the past few years could of been unethical and therefore null and void? And if that is the case, how far back does it go? Would that mean that Mitchem original contract is Void? any policy he made is Void? This is not hearsay or rumor, it is in the school board meeting. FYI the Illinois Association of School Boards has been contacted.
Disappointed Taxpayer January 24, 2014 at 04:57 PM
Concerned Parent, please give the details leading up to and including the alleged bullying/belittling of a student by Mr. White. Let's not blur the lines between disciplining or sternly making one aware that an unacceptable behavior will not be tolerated and bullying.

I'm betting "concerned parent" has a kid that maybe wasn't making good choices or following the rules.....it's obvious the OVERWHELMING majority see the good Mr. White has done.....
my opinion January 27, 2014 at 09:11 AM

Concerned Citizen January 29, 2014 at 08:42 PM
I'm a teacher at VVSD, not at BHS, but still keeping up with what has been going on there with Mr. White. I am strongly in support of Mr. White as he was very upfront about his expectations, stands behind what he says, and is holding students accountable for their choices. I think that is something strongly lacking in our district. I think our district could learn about transparency and team work from Mr. White. I am endlessly frustrated with continuing changes in curriculum and rules which are not communicated to parents from the district level. This causes unnecessary discord between parents and teachers. Parents - please understand that the rules and curriculum changes are not decided or approved by us; we find many of them as idiotic, unnecessary, and/or poorly planned as you do. Unfortunately, if we voice disagreement to administration, students, or parents we will suffer the consequences of the current regime. On behalf of many teachers we are so sorry for the ongoing mess that is the current state of VVSD.
Child of GOD January 30, 2014 at 10:35 AM
Concerned Citizen, I to work for the school dist. and agree with your comments. There is a lack of accountability in our schools with the students (and the teachers). Sometimes it put us in a dangerous situation. But you have to remember, that they are afraid of the parents, if you take action on their kids, the parents complain and the teachers or staff employee involved get in trouble. Parents need to step up and teach their kids to respect others. Lack of respect is a big problem. I also think some of these changes made are not all that great. Testing re-take, is a big joke, they focus on what the state testing requires and forgets about really teaching what the kids need. Passing them when they have no clue what they're doing. That is something that really needs to be looked at. We are forgetting the most important thing. TEACHING THE KIDS. Don't forget, we have teachers that have no right being a teacher too.
Pete Simon January 30, 2014 at 01:22 PM
Concerned Citizen, I can only imagine how teachers feel. On one hand you want to do what's right for the kid's, on the other hand if you speak up, you might lose your job. I really wish teachers could speak up without repercussions, this debate would be over, one way or the other. You mention the word regime, that always make me think of dictators for some reason.
