Bolingbrook Teen Lauren Ransom Heading to Medical Conference in Washington

During a three-day event in the nation's capital, students will listen to Nobel Laureates and National Medal of Science winners talk about medical issues.

Bolingbrook resident and Plainfield East High School senior Lauren Ransom has been chosen to attend the first-ever Congress of Future Medical Leaders conference in Washington D.C., from Feb. 14-16, 2014.

Ransom, who wants to be a pediatrician is one of about 2,500 students nationwide expected to attend the event. The Congress is an honors-only program for high school students who want to become physicians or go into medical research fields.

Prospective Congress attendees are nominated by teachers, principals or doctors associated with the program based on their academic achievement, leadership potential and determination to serve humanity in the field of medicine.

The Congress is intended to honor, inspire, motivate and direct the top students nationwide who want to be doctors or medical scientists.

During the three-day event, students will hear Nobel Laureates and National Medal of Science winners discuss medical issues; get advice from top medical school officials about what to expect in medical school; hear stories about medical procedures; learn from teen medical prodigies; and learn about cutting-edge medical technologies.

The Congress is presented by the National Academy of Future Physicians and Medical Scientists in Washington, D.C.
