Brooks Middle School Helping Students on College, Career Path

Principal Keith Wood is hosting a series of informal Thursday morning parent meetings.

is placing a high emphasis on critical thinking skills, communication skills, problem solving and learning how to work together so that students “can do what’s necessary to enter a global economy” when they become adults.

So says Principal Keith Wood who held the first of four informal parent meetings Thursday morning in an effort to “open up some dialogue” with the community.

“We must make sure that when every child graduates from high school, they understand that college is an option,” Dr. Wood told parents, adding that VVSD’s New View vision from early childhood through high school is “to make sure each child is college and career ready.”

Dr. Wood will meet over coffee with parents and the community on three more occasions: 7 p.m. Feb. 23, 9 a.m. March 22 and 9 a.m. April 17. In addition to a short program, he will entertain questions of any kind.

“We want to share what’s happening at Brooks so you have a better understanding of what your kids do each day,” he told parents Thursday.
