College Readiness Fair Aug. 27 at Bolingbrook High School

This article does not say that "all invited" as the host is geared towards one race. Is there going to be another one for the other students from another host? I really need some information about how to prepare and get my daughter ready for college. Thank you.

The event on August 27, 2011 is open to any student grades 6th-12th, whether you live in the Bolingbrook Community or beyond, and your ethnicity is not a factor to participate. You are free to attend the fair, and all of the seminars. As a result of the equal opportunity this fair will provide, the Valley View School District, which does not discriminate or limit opportunities based on ethnicity, has agreed to host the event. If you would like more information on the opportunities available, please contact the email address or telephone number indicated in the article. On a lighter note, you have a great misconception about the NAACP. Your assumption is that the host is geared toward one race, however the NAACP is an organization that fights on behalf of injustice for anyone that experiences such misfortune. The NAACP was founded by mostly white Americans in 1909 to prevent social injustice. It welcomes your attendance and participation in the event.

Thank you for your enlightening post. When I first heard about this event and that NAACP is the sponsor, I knew many in the community would just assume the event would be geared toward the Black community only. Given the vast diversity in Bolingbrook, I applaud the NAACP for it's efforts in starting this important event for ALL of our students and families. We need to continue to send the message that all ethnic groups have an interest in pursuing a college education.

I think it's time the NAACP change their name to the "Advancement of People" as the word "Colored" is outdated. There is no benefits for any once race today and I hope it's equal. Everything is based on a "number" GPA, Credit Score or Income.
