Congressman to Bolingbrook Students: College is Getway to Rest of Your Life

U.S. Congressman Bill Foster visited B.J. Ward Elementary School Thursday, talking with students about the importance of going to college and also taking a tour of the school’s computer lab.

“What’s nice about computers is they do exactly what you tell them to do,” said Rep. Foster as he related his business success story which began with a small family-owned computer company. “There are many ways you can use computer skills when it comes time to get a job.”

The former Fermilab scientist admitted his recent election to Congress “was a pretty big change” but he made the move “because you can make laws to make people’s lives better.”

Among questions students asked:

Has he ever met President Obama? (“Yes, many times.”)

Does he have children? (Yes, two.)

What’s the best part of his job in Congress? (“By far it’s coming home every weekend.”)

What is his dream job? (A teacher. “If you’re doing your job in Washington, you help people, but you never get to see the people you help. I’m very envious of all your teachers here.”)

Rep. Foster urged the students to “set your sights on a good gateway for the rest of your life. If you go to college, you can do anything, including being President of the United States.”
