What's Happening for the Holidays: A Bolingbrook Roundup

A list of area Yuletide activities for kids and adults throughout the school district.

Christmas season is in full-tilt. And with it comes plenty of festive events, including many right here in .

Here’s a roundup of area holiday festivities and events, plus a listing of Yuletide programs at local schools.

B96 Jingle Bash concert ticket rapid raffle fundraiser

The P.E. staff sell raffle tickets for $1 each (or 6 tickets for $5) for a chance to attend the sold-out Jingle Bash concert at the Allstate Arena Dec. 17, featuring Enrique Iglesias, Selena Gomez, LMFAO, Joe Jonas, Jason Derulo, Cobra Starship, Karmin and Keenan Cahill.

Tickets will be on sale from any physical education teacher through Dec. 9 and the winner’s name will be drawn Dec. 12. Money raised will be donated to the American Heart Association during the school’s Sports for Heart fundraiser.

Holiday Concerts

Thursday, Dec. 15, in the auditorium. The 6:30 p.m. performance will feature the Symphonic Band, Concert Band I, Jazz Band II, Sunrise Singers, Mixed Choir and Madrigal Singers; and the 8:30 p.m. concert will include the Freshman Concert Band II, Wind Symphony, Jazz Band I, Women’s Glee, Sunrise Singers and Madrigal Singers.

Tickets for reserved seating for each concert may be purchased at www.bhsmusicboosters.com until noon Dec. 15. Tickets cost $2 per person.

National Honor Society Barnes & Noble Bookfair

Sunday, Dec. 13, at . Shop from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Events include storytime from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.; pictures with Santa from 9 a.m. to noon and teachers’ pie-eating contests from 11 a.m. to noon and noon to 1 p.m.

BHS Best Buddies fundraiser

The Best Buddies Club is selling Kringles of Racine danishes to support the club, which promotes friendships between students with intellectual disabilities and their peers To place an order, send an email indicating choices by Dec. 2 to soncekma@vvsd.org or theiske@vvsd.org.

Flavors include almond, raspberry, cheesecake, pecan, turtle, apple cinnamon, cherry, chocolate éclair, cheesecake and cinnamon. The cost is $10 each.

Winter Fest

Really Intelligent Girls Hang Together (R.I.G.H.T) is collecting new hats, gloves and mittens for needy families as part of its second holiday service learning project, Winter Fest, Thursday, Dec. 8, from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. 

Holiday band concert

The 6th grade band will perform holiday favorites today at 7 p.m. and the 7th grade band will entertain on Wednesday. Both concerts are at 7 p.m. in the school's auditorium.

Holiday friendship group

Staff members Danielle McDermott and Jill Mazzuca sponsor a holiday friendship group, which raised approximately $200 to purchase Thanksgiving meals for some of Bolingbrook’s low-income families.

Next week, the group will organize a holiday giving tree and Brooks staff will purchase gifts for the same low-income families from now until winter break. Students participating in the group will wrap the presents, which will be delivered to the families in time for their holiday celebrations.

Holiday outreach group

Danielle McDermott and Teresa Polson, the 7th grade dean, are coordinating a holiday outreach group with . Participating Brooks students have been acting as elves, helping with responses to Ms. Calabrese’s first grade class’s letters to Santa Claus. The students will deliver the letters to the class and participate in a holiday party at Wood View Dec. 13. 

Band/choir concert

Tuesday, Dec. 13, 7 p.m.

Winter Dance

A winter dance for students only will take place Friday, Dec. 9, from 7-9 p.m.

Winter Choir Concert

The Jane Addams Middle School Choir will perform in concert Wednesday, Dec. 14, at 7 p.m. 

Family Fun and Fitness Night

Family Fun & Fitness Night will take place Thursday, Dec. 15, from 5-8 p.m.

Play

The play “Homework Ate My Dog & Other Woeful Tales" will be performed Friday and Saturday, Dec. 16 and 17 at 7 p.m.

Pennies for Paws fundraiser

NJHS will sponsor a Pennies for Paws fundraiser Dec. 5-16 during the school day. 

Book fair

Students will read essays in the children’s section at and the school choir will perform during book fair night Friday, Dec. 9, from 6-9 p.m., at the Barnes & Noble at The Promenade Bolingbrook. A percentage of sales will benefit the JRT library.

Choir performance

The school choir will perform Tuesday, Dec. 13, from 10-11 a.m. at R.R. Donnelly in Bolingbrook.

Cookies with Santa

The JRT PTO will sponsor Cookies with Santa Thursday, Dec. 15, from 6-8 p.m. Students can enjoy cookies with Santa and shop at the school’s holiday shop.

Visit from Edison the Reindeer

Edison the Reindeer from Lite FM will visit the school Friday, Dec. 16, at 11 a.m. 

Winter concert

Students will present a winter concert Friday, Dec. 16, from 1-3 p.m., with “A Winter Celebration” by kindergarteners and first-graders at 1 p.m.; “Crazy Carols” by second- and third-graders at 1:45 p.m.; and “Christmas at the O.K. Corral” by fourth- and fifth-graders at 2:30 p.m.

Angel tree

Salk staff has adopted five families for the holidays. Staff members are invited to choose a tag from the angel tree in the school office and purchase a gift card for a family in need. Items will be delivered before winter break begins. 

Book Fair

Families can make Christmas ornaments at the school’s Barnes and Noble book fair Tuesday, Dec. 6, from 6:30-8 p.m. 

Holiday concerts

Oakview first-graders will perform at 2 p.m. and second- and third-graders will perform at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14. The school’s fourth- and fifth-grade students and the school choir will hold their concert Monday, Dec. 19, at 6:30 p.m.

Middle school carolers

The Brooks Middle School choir and NHS students will perform for students Tuesday, Dec. 20, at 9:30 a.m.

Operation Christmas

The school is collecting for Operation Christmas and participating in the DuCap Coat Drive.

Make a Wish

Students are writing letters for the Make a Wish Foundation in conjunction with Macy’s, to be delivered to the store Dec. 8.

Operation Christmas

The school is participating in Operation Christmas to support the community by collecting toys, canned goods and monetary donations for needy families. 

PTA Winter Wonderland Holiday Fair

Friday, Dec. 2, from 6:30-8:30, at Wood View. The event will feature food, fun, games, crafts and pictures with Santa.

Holiday music concert

Students in grades kindergarten - 5th will perform Thursday, Dec. 8, from 6-8 p.m.
