Humphrey Spelling Bee Champs Advance to District Finals

Janielle Javier, John Besler and Ximena Nevarez win titles in spelling competition at Humphrey Middle School.

Humphrey Middle School crowned its spelling bee champions Thursday with the winners at each grade level advancing to the Valley View School District 365U Spelling Bee on Feb. 4.

The 8th grade champion is Janielle Javier who was correct inspelling “mootable” in the 5th round followed by “bookkeeping” for the win. Trinity Scott was second, missing on “gnat.” Dany Barrera won a spell-off to finish third.

John Belser spelled eponym correctly in the 8th round and thenspelled “philanthropy” to win the 7th grade title. Kira Espinili finished second by getting “dyslexia” right in round 7 before missing on “matriarch.” Cathy Truong finished third.

The 6th grade win went to Ximena Nevarez who got “syntax” correct in the 6th round and then spelled “nemesis” for the win. Sam Akindipe was second in a spell-off with Kayla Davis.
