Kristin Soprych Named STEP Administrator

Kristin Soprych is the new Student Services Administrator for Secondary Transition Experience Program (STEP).

The former Student Services Resource Team Leader succeeds Erica Ekstrom who is now Valley View School District’s Executive Director of Student Services.

Soprych, who has been at Brooks since the 2008-09 school year, is a former 7th grade Learning Specialist at Old Quarry Middle School in Lemont. She also has two years of experience as a 3rd grade classroom teacher in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and two years as a special education teacher for grades 4 through 6 in Bloomington, Indiana.

The Joliet resident holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and Special Education emphasis from Indiana University as well Master’s Degrees in School Counseling from Concordia University and in Leadership and Administration from Benedictine University.

The STEP program, housed in the southeastern portion of the Brooks Middle School building, is designed to assist selected 18-to-21-year-olds with their transition from high school to life on their own.
