Oak View Principal: Every Student Will Exceed State Standards

Oak View Principal Robert Pinciak pointed to several new initiatives in the Valley View School District that will help students continue to improve in both the math and reading areas.

Oak View Elementary School’s students “aren’t quite there yet,” but they are showing great improvements academically, according to .

“We’re working hard to make sure we continue to get better,” he told parents Monday morning at the first of what will be a series of gatherings in his new Partners in Excellence (PIE) program.

Pinciak detailed ISAT scores that showed almost 90 percent of the school’s 2010-11 students meeting or exceeding state standards in math, up from 88.7 percent two years ago and 89.1 percent a year ago. Reading scores, he indicated, stood at 77.6 percent, up from 73 percent the year before and 73.2 percent from two years ago.

“You can see we have made some improvement but we want 100 percent of our students to exceed the standards,” he said.

Pinciak pointed to several new initiatives in the that will help students continue to improve in both the math and reading areas including what he termed “one of the best professional development reading programs” in the area that is currently being offered to Oak View teachers on a monthly basis.

He also explained Valley View's new testing program calling it “very exciting” and a “wonderful tool” because “we will be able to see how your children grow throughout the year.”

Pinciak relayed partial details about what could be two new programs that are currently “in the talking process” including and VVSD .

“The Summer Learning Experience will mirror what is happening during the regular school year,” he said, adding that the program is designed to help combat what he termed “summer learning loss” in students who will be in kindergarten through 5th grade next fall.

Pinciak plans on varying the times and locations of future PIE gatherings.
