Erica Ekstrom, the new executive director of student services for , celebrated her first day on the job last week.
Erica Ekstrom, was previously principal of he district's Secondary Transition Experience Program (STEP).
Ekstrom, who has been with VVSD since 2006, succeeds David Hehl, who is taking another position in the district as of June 30.
A graduate of Illinois State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education, she obtained her master's from Governors State University and also holds a master’s of Educational Leadership from American College of Education.
She began her career with Valley View as a resource cross categorical teacher at Bolingbrook High School before becoming a Special Education Coordinator for the district in 2007. She was named STEP Principal at the start of the current school year.
Prior to coming to VVSD, Ekstrom was a low incidence teacher at Drauden Point Middle School in Plainfield School District 202.
