Summer School Cancelled Tuesday in Valley View

No classes, Summer Learning Experience due to power outages, other storm-related issues.

Monday night's fierce storms prompted Valley View School District officials to cancel summer classes on Tuesday.

"Because of power outages and other issues caused by last night's storms, all VVSD summer school programs, including Summer Learning Experience, have been canceled for today," the district announced Tuesday morning.

The Village of Romeoville activated its Emergency Operations Command Center late Monday amid reports of power outages and downed trees, as well as flooded roadways.

Bolingbrook was also busy fielding emergency reports during and after the storm, according to Bolingbrook Police Lt. Mike Rompa.

"Dispatch was extremely busy with alarm calls and 911 calls about the storm," Rompa said. "Numerous neighborhoods had/have power outages. The storm knocked down numerous trees which fully or partially blocked roadways."

Public works crews moved trees from roadways until they could be fully removed during the day, Rompa said. Some village streets also flooded during the heavy rain. He said Royce Road was deemed passable at about 4 a.m.
