Two BHS Wrestlers Qualify for State; Bain Still Unbeaten

Two wrestlers will compete in this weekend’s Illinois High School Association individual wrestling state championships.

Unbeaten senior Rob Bain (23-0) brushed off three competitors winning on a fall, by an 11-4 decision and an 11-2 decision to add the Lincoln Way sectional 285-pound weight class championship to his list of accomplishments Saturday.

Raiders teammate Isaac Jensen qualified for state as well, finishing third in the 220 pound weight class winning three times on a fall, losing once on a fall and then edging Plainfield Central’s Greg Cameron 10-9 in the third place match.

Other wrestlers competed at the sectional level but did not qualify for state:

• 106: BHS junior Max Crider lost two matches by decision 4-1 and 7-1.

• 120: BHS freshman Elijah Bavarro lost his first two matches by decision 6-5 and 17-5. senior Darshawn Hardy won 9-0, lost 7-0 and then won by default and on a fall in the wrestle-back before losing 4-0 to a Lockport wrestler.

• 132: RHS junior Caleb Ramos won his first match 8-5 before losing 13-4. In the wrestle-back he won 5-3 and 11-1 before losing in the semifinals 12-8 to an Edwards High School wrestler.

• 145: RHS senior Aaron Brooks won on a fall but then lost 9-4 and 9-2.
