Valley View Teachers Union to Vote on Contract Wednesday, Days After District Cuts Positions

The Valley View teachers union will vote Wednesday on a second proposed contract after rejecting a first proposal in September.

Valley View School District 365U announced a plan to cut $560,000 in administrative costs Monday night -- just two days before the Valley View teachers union will vote on a second proposed contract.

The union overwhelmingly voted down the first proposed contract in September based on salary, higher insurance premiums and changes to the daily schedule, according to the Bugle. Of the 1,800 certified and classified members, 92 percent rejected the contract. 

The union and district have since resorted to mediation, according to the Bugle

If the second contract is rejected, the union will meet again to determine next steps, according to the Bugle

"Though no organized, district-wide move to rally against the contract has been made, at least one school, Brooks Middle School, is anticipating a “walk-in,” to express solidarity between teachers," the Bugle reported
