Valley View Seeking New FANS

Local schools are looking to bring back the program.

Submitted by Valley View School District:

Valley View School District 365U is looking for staff and community members who would like to serve on a committee that will lead an effort to re-establish the “FANS” (Friends and Neighbors Supporting Students) program in all VVSD middle and high schools.

The FANS program, launched four years ago at Bolingbrook High School, was designed to bring community members into the school to spend some time with students once or twice a month during passing periods mostly before school, during lunch or after school.

At its peak, the Bolingbrook High School FANS program included more than 100 community members. Several other VVSD schools also launched FANS programs. But, for a variety of reasons, all of the programs have since dissolved. Brooks Middle School is already in the process of forming a new FANS program.

"Valley View has always extended an open door to the community members it serves. For the 22 years I have lived in Bolingbrook, educating my three children through VVSD, I took every opportunity for involvement that was extended by either teachers or administrators,” said VVSD School Board member Chrystal Hansen, who will chair the committee. “FANS offers our stakeholders an opportunity to experience first-hand the many great things happening with their students and their neighbor’s students in the district.”

Anyone interested in serving on Valley View’s FANS Committee or seeking more information should contact Community Relations Director Larry Randa at 815-641-7681, Ext. 261 or RandaLK@vvsd.org.
