VVSD Has Two Individual Middle School State Wrestling Champions

Josh Alexander Brooks Middle School and Trevell Timmons of Humphrey Middle School won four straight matches in Saturday's Illinois Elementary School Association state finals.

Josh Alexander of won four straight matches 13-2, 7-2, 7-0 and 11-8 to win the crown in the 135 pound weight class while Trevell Timmons of also won four straight 11-1, 7-5, 7-0 and 2-0 to win the 112 pound weight class.

Two other wrestlers finished sixth in Saturday's Illinois Elementary School Association state finals. Lukancic Middle School's Gio Dekire won three straight, including a 10-0 shutout and two falls, before losing 10-0, 9-8 and 8-6 in the 112 pound class. Daniel Carreno was sixth at 155 winning 3-1, losing on a fall, winning 20-3 and 10-8 and losing 10-1.

Five other VVSD wrestlers made it to the state tournament:

Humphrey's John O'Brien lost a first round match 4-3 at 75 pounds. Steven Moon of Martinez won 12-1 but then lost by a fall and 4-3. Jack Kayhart of Brooks won in a fall but then lost 7-2 and 5-4 at 119 pounds. And at 167,Kammeran Hughers of Martinez lost 9-0 in the opening round while Rafael Gonzalez of Brooks won 4-3 and lost on a fall.
